~Katandra Shanel Jackson, CEO at FreedomInk
Newsflash! It's happening! Hidden Gems has been given the opportunity it has been waiting on. While although not a full fledged brick and mortar location, the inclusion in Dezires, a Ladies Boutique, owned and operated by Laura Johnson, is indeed just the thing we've been waiting on. FreedomInk will be alloted store space via two tall bookcases and we need your help. Katandra is in the midst of a fundraiser to gather monetary means to fill the shelves and operate alongside this new business partner. A point of sales machine, merchandise bags, bookmarks, business cards, funds to advertise. Along with monetary contributions, the CEO is also asking that Authors please send up to 2 autographed books to be included with Grand Opening inventory. Thanks in advance for all of your continued love & support. http://www.gofundme.com/hkmzao

The Women Who Raised Me--
Born as a ward of the state of Maine, the child of an unmarried Yankee blueblood mother and an unknown black father, Victoria Rowell beat the odds. The Women Who Raised Me is the remarkable story of her rise out of the foster care system to attain the American Dream—and of the unlikely series of women who lifted, motivated, and inspired her along the way. From Agatha Armstead—a black Bostonian who was Victoria's longest-term foster mother and first noticed her spark of creativity and talent—to Esther Brooks, a Paris-trained prima ballerina who would become her first mentor at the Cambridge School of Ballet—The Women Who Raised Me is a loving, vivid portrait of all the women who would help Victoria transition out of foster care and into New York City's wild worlds of ballet, acting, and adulthood. Though Victoria would go on to become an accomplished television and film star, she still carried the burden of loneliness and anxiety, particularly common to those "orphans of the living" who are never adopted. Vividly recalled and candidly told, her story is transfixing, redemptive, heartbreaking, and, ultimately, inspiring.
Secrets Of A Soap Opera Diva--
Calysta Jeffries is the hottest black actress in daytime and the diva of the soap opera world, known for her role as Ruby Stargazer on television’s most popular soap opera, "The Rich and the Ruthless."
After fifteen years, three returns from the dead, two failed pregnancies, one alien abduction, and overcoming retrograde amnesia, Calysta still hasn’t managed to snag the biggest award in daytime drama: the Sudsy. Now is supposed to be her moment. But Calysta’s onscreen/offscreen rival Emmy Abernathy wins the award for the fourth time. The drama begins when journalist Mitch Morelli asks Calysta for a quote after the award show and her true feelings for her costar slip out.
Ripped from the headlines of Soap Opera Digest and straight off of the television screen, Secrets of a Soap Opera Diva will give readers plenty to talk about as they try to guess where the real world ends and Rowell’s imagination begins.

Hank & Chloe--
Chloe Morgan is a thirty-three-year-old part-time waitress, small-time horse trainer, and full-time thoroughly toughened Western woman living in a corner of the dwindling canyonlands of Southern California. Though surrounded by such memorable friends as Rich, her boss at the diner who rules by intimidation; Kit, Rich's obese and talkative teenage daughter; Gabe, a lusty veterinarian; and Wes, a classic cowboy with a heart of gold, the only creatures Chloe allows herself to love with total abandon and complete faith are Hannah, her German shepherd, and Absalom, her beloved horse. That is, until a quirk in the weather and a sunrise funeral service cause her to cross the path of Henry Oliver, a sedate professor of folklore at the local junior college who, like Chloe, has reasons for holding back. But once Hank steps inside Chloe's makeshift cabin in the hills, Chloe realizes she must come to terms with her losses and choose between the life of solitude she had always thought was her fate and the love of a man who seems - at first - all wrong.
Loving Chloe takes up where the earlier novel leaves off. As Chloe and Hank settle somewhat uneasily into domesticity in his grandmother's cabin, a local Navajo legend named Junior Whitebear, an artist whose work has been praised by the eastern commercial establishment, returns home to collect his father's ashes and renew his own spirit after years spent in the art world fast lane. When Junior arrives at the reservation, he doesn't expect to find a son he fathered unwittingly nine years ago with Corinne Johnson; nor is he looking to fall in love with newcomer Chloe Morgan and to deliver her baby girl. Both events change his life forever, not to mention the lives of those around him. A passionate love story, Loving Chloe explores the emotional complexity of a love triangle with sympathy, humor, and compassion.

Water for Elephants, Sara Gruen--
As a young man, Jacob Jankowski was tossed by fate onto a rickety train that was home to the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. It was the early part of the great Depression, and for Jacob, now ninety, the circus world he remembers was both his salvation and a living hell. A veterinary student just shy of a degree, he was put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It was there that he met Marlena, the beautiful equestrian star married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. And he met Rosie, an untrainable elephant who was the great gray hope for this third-rate traveling show. The bond that grew among this unlikely trio was one of love and trust, and, ultimately, it was their only hope for survival.
Eat Pray Love, Elizabeth Gilbert--
This beautifully written, heartfelt memoir touched a nerve among both readers and reviewers. Elizabeth Gilbert tells how she made the difficult choice to leave behind all the trappings of modern American success (marriage, house in the country, career) and find, instead, what she truly wanted from life. Setting out for a year to study three different aspects of her nature amid three different cultures, Gilbert explored the art of pleasure in Italy and the art of devotion in India, and then a balance between the two on the Indonesian island of Bali. By turns rapturous and rueful, this wise and funny author (whom Booklist calls “Anne Lamott’s hip, yoga- practicing, footloose younger sister”) is poised to garner yet more adoring fans.
